In the round of 16 of the ÖFB Cup there was a duel between two teams from the 2nd division: Floridsdorfer AC hosted SK Austria Klagenfurt. After an uneventful first half and two controversial penalty decisions shortly before the end, both teams went 1-1 in extra time. This won over the guests, Hütter and Pecirep shot their team in the quarterfinals.
No goals at halftime
The first minutes of the game were quite scrambled, the flow of the game was repeatedly destroyed by minor fouls. In terms of football, the Muslic-Elf team and Robert Micheu largely neutralized each other, so nothing spectacular was offered. On the contrary: in the aerial game, both the FAC and Klagenfurt Austria showed weaknesses, the game seemed little inspired by both sides. Consequently, both teams rarely entered the dangerous rooms. Klagenfurt mostly only managed to do this according to the standards, especially with the Austrian corners, the FAC defense showed weaknesses. Just before the break, when Markoutz sank the ball into goal, but was clearly offside (42.). Attacking partner Markus Pink also appeared in front of Jenciragic’s goal in the 34th minute, but he tried from an extremely sharp angle. But even on the part of the FAC, the sights of the offensive forces were still too imprecise: Jurdik, who was by far the most active in the first half on the hosts’ side, failed twice against Klagenfurt goalkeeper Philipp in the minutes. 23 and 28 of the game. Menzel, who played a strong role in both actions, closed the way to goal and avoided the deficit.
Excitement in the final minutes: Klagenfurt decides extra time
Even after the break, the game was not at all attractive. The teams seemed a bit sleepy and very little happened in the second 45 minutes. Highlight: a conclusion from Schmid, but centrally on Menzel (64th). Shot outside the net by Oliver Markoutz (65th). A shot on goal by Nils Zatl, who clearly missed the goal (83) and a triple change by the guests, who were waiting for a breath of fresh air through this measure, a hope that was not yet to be confirmed. But then it got weird. Because after a duel between Moreira and Becirovic, the former fell in the penalty area, the referee decided on a penalty. A controversial decision, because the contact probably came from Moreira. However: grief. Markus Pink shot very badly: Jenciragic was able to capture the missed shot (87). Less than a minute later, however, the FAC goalkeeper was left behind: substitute Pecirep held on from a semi-direct position, the ball sank into the net, 1-0. The game seemed over. But also on the other side, referee Kijas gave a controversial penalty, but Sahanek himself seemed to have committed a foul. Since the alleged foul converted the penalty in injury time, it was 1: 1 – he went into extra time.
In this the guests started better, with a free kick from Hütter from a distance, Mahrer jumped in front of the ball, thus obscuring the view of the FAC goalkeeper Jenciragic: the ball landed in goal for another 2-1 lead. This time the Carinthians did not give up the game, with a crossbar after a free kick that Austria could have won the game even earlier. However, as it stood, Pecirep made it all clear with his second penalty attempt, making it 3-1 with a penalty in the 120th minute. Due to labor’s laborious victory, Micheu-Elf are in the quarter-finals of the ÖFB Cup.
