The federal government’s current plans for an intensified three-week shutdown are met with harsh criticism from opposition parties. SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner called the move an admission of guilt for the total failure of the government to manage the crown.

Similar to FPÖ. “In short, Kogler, Anschober and Nehammer are trying to bury our republic,” club boss Herbert Kickl said in a broadcast.

SPÖ: Rendi-Wagner harshly criticizes the government

At a press conference on Saturday, Rendi-Wagner faced the fact that no preparations had been made for the impending second wave of pandemics. He did not handle central coordination or contact tracing intact. The federal government also left states and hospitals alone in setting up intensive care units. He also called the fact that Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) spoke of the light at the end of the tunnel in August, when the second wave had already started as a serious mistake.

The blockade is an “act of desperation”

The now announced blockade is an “act of desperation” and shows the federal government’s total loss of control over the infection process, Rendi-Wagner said: “Now all Austrians are presenting the bill for the failure of the management of the federal government”. And: “The government must now pull the emergency brake due to its own failure.” If this blind flight continues like this, the next lockdown is already pre-programmed.

A clear did not come from the head of SPÖ for the imminent end of the regular lessons. Schools must remain open. The limitations in this area are the wrong signal and the wrong measurements. Almost all Western countries would have let classes continue despite the blockades. A stop brings a lot of harm, little benefit, and is “very irresponsible.”

By the way, there was hardly any participation from the opposition, according to Rendi-Wagner. A short conference call is promised, in which one will probably find out what has been circulating in the media for days.

The FPÖ also strongly criticizes the closure plans

“The government has learned nothing,” Kickl said of the previously known lockdown measures. Apparently, since the spring, people have put their hands in their laps and have not thought of anything. Now they resort to completely excessive means and lead Austria to ruin. Fundamental rights and freedoms are also being massively intervened once again.

All areas of life such as the economy, the labor market, culture, education and sport have already suffered massive and, to a large extent, irreparable damage. Relief funds are being paid slowly or not being paid. The situation is dramatic, but not mainly because of the corona virus, but because of incompetence, self-importance and resistance to the advice of the ÖVP and the Greens, according to Kickl.

The government has “failed” for Meinl-Reisinger

NEOS President Beate Meinl-Reisinger blames the coalition for the second “blockade”: “This government has failed,” she told a news conference Saturday afternoon. Kurz’s cabinet has had the only job in recent months to avoid a second “lockdown.” Many countries, including Austria’s neighbors, have shown that this is possible. Due to school closures, the head of NEOS wants to examine the legal steps.

Meinl-Reisinger explained that the parents had already approached her if they wanted to go to the highest courts. Look at that now.

Without school closures, which the NEOS president sees as an “end to the fundamental right to education,” her party on the main committee would even agree to measures such as the 24-hour exit restriction. Meinl-Reisinger also appealed to the population to meet the requirements this time.

Millions have already done so and now have to pay the bill, as well as the economy, for which the current situation is a “catastrophe.” Meinl-Reisinger hopes that “strong and legally clean measures will be brought to the table” quickly.

The government is also called upon to do something to prevent the summer omissions from happening again. Among other things, this involves expanding contact tracing and testing.
