The death toll has risen by 53 since Thursday to 1,661. More than 3,900 patients with Covid 19 had to be treated in hospital, including 567 in intensive care units.

76,839 people were actively infected, that’s more than the Mistelbach district has (75,625 people). Therefore, it is considered that 0.86% of the population are confirmed active cases. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 residents rose to 587 on Friday. On average, 7,464 new infections were added each day during the past week.

32,328 tests were recorded in the last 24 hours. Most of the new infections occurred in Vienna with 1,902, 1,891 in Upper Austria, 1,123 in Lower Austria and 1,006 in Carinthia (with late reports). 975 new cases were reported in Vorarlberg and 944 in Styria. 837 SARS-CoV-2 positive people were added in Salzburg, in Burgenland there were 184.

Across Austria, 3,922 people were in hospital treatment, 111 more than on Thursday. In the intensive care beds there were a plus of 21 patients. A total of 567 patients with Covid-19 required intensive medical treatment; 146 seriously ill people were added in one week.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 191,228 people have tested positive. By Friday morning at 9.30am, 1,661 people in Austria had died as a result of the coronavirus; in one week, 321 people had died.

In addition, the Crown Commission presented its risk rating indicators for the currently applicable traffic light change: all of Austria remains red. This shows that in the most recent data from week 45 in Austria, the source of infection was unknown in 77 percent of SARS-CoV-2 cases and the infection could be cleared up in only 23 percent of cases, that is, less than a quarter.

The age structure of the SARS-CoV-2 positive cases can also be read in the indicators. According to this, the age group most affected in the previous week was between 50 and 64 years with 42 percent. 33 percent of those infected were between 20 and 49 years old. 15 percent belonged to the age group 65 and over. Eleven percent were between 0 and 19 years old.

Therefore, more and more hospitals are postponing non-urgent interventions to ensure the capabilities of Covid patients. Hospitals in Upper Austria are in crisis mode: interventions that are not absolutely necessary have been postponed for some time and intensive care capacities will be expanded again next week.

Only a few elective operations are performed in Styrian hospitals. Also in Vienna, planned interventions are already being gradually postponed. Some of the operations are carried out in private hospitals.

Carinthia is expanding the previous three-stage plan for bed capacity to a five-stage plan, elective operating rooms are being “phased out”. In Tyrol, all hospitals must postpone planned operations. Emergency care is guaranteed.

In Lower Austrian state clinics, a good 60 percent of elective interventions are carried out. In Burgenland, particular tumor operations are carried out, even if they are not acute.
