Fear and horror in the center of Traun. Just a week after the attack in Vienna, a 26-year-old Slovakian walked the streets of Traun, pointing a pistol at passersby and pulling the trigger. Those affected could not see that it was a supposed soft pistol.
The incident started in Johann Roithner-Strasse. The Slovak headed toward Bahnhofstrasse. As he passed a group of people, he turned and pointed the gun at the group of people. Then he continued in the direction of Heinrich Gruber Strasse. When approached by a 65-year-old man, the killer pointed the gun at the man’s head from a very close distance and pulled the trigger twice, which could be clearly heard. The 65-year-old was “terrified and uncomfortable,” as police write today. A 43-year-old witness from Linz also assumed it was a real firearm and thought he had to call the rescue.
Fortunately, a uniformed Traun city police patrol was nearby, watching what was happening and, weapons in hand, persuaded the 26-year-old to surrender his weapon. The man was taken to Linz Prison.
