Czech automakers with the most orders

Czech automaker Tatra, based in Koprivnice, is said to be interested in MAN’s Steyr location, which is threatened with closure. Upper Austrian media reported on Thursday. MAN’s parent company Traton plans to close the plant with 2,300 employees in 2023 despite the location and employment guarantee. The fronts between the management and the works council have hardened even more this week.
“I can confirm that Tatra is fundamentally interested in an engagement at Steyr,” quoted “OÖ Nachrichten” Anton Bucek, who represents Tatra in Austria. But no more can be said about it as long as there are no details on the table and it is unclear what the German parent company plans. Tatra manufactures 1,400 trucks a year and this year, contrary to industry trends, saw an order increase of 30 percent.

Will “Austria Consortium” take over MAN?
More recently, Economy Minister Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) reported on efforts to establish an “Austrian Consortium” that could take over the plant in Upper Austria.
