Almost traditionally, draws for all tournaments always represent the first big highlight of a tournament week. In the ATP Finals, this part of the preliminary program can play an even bigger role, as the end-of-the-year finals initially take place in a single group mode.
The individual groups have particularly illustrious names this year. On the one hand there is the “Group Tokyo 1970” based on the first ATP finals in history, on the other hand the “Group London 2020” – of course, a tribute to the last end of the year in the British capital for now . As is known, Turin will be played from 2021.
Schwartzman wants Nadal, Thiem and Tsitsipas
Who plays in which group will be shown in Thursday’s drawing at 5:45 pm CET. The only sure thing for now is that Novak Djokovic will lead “Tokyo 1970”, Rafael Nadal “London 2020”. After that, the top two future players will be drawn between the top two current professionals.
For this year, after Roger Federer’s absence due to injury, the following couples were found: Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev as well as Andrey Rublev and Diego Schwartzman. By the way, the Argentine wanted Nadal, Thiem and Tsitsipas to be group opponents before the draw, a constellation that every Austrian tennis fan would be satisfied with.
