More and more people are infected with corona, more and more people in intensive care units. Now, the state of Upper Austria is reinforcing protection measures again.
“This is the biggest sanitary challenge for the state of Upper Austria since the Second World War.” Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) re-emphasized on Wednesday how tense and dangerous Corona’s situation is in Upper Austria at the moment.
“In the last 24 hours alone, 12 more people have been added in need of intensive medical care,” says Stelzer. This means that there are currently 113 people in intensive care. A total of 200 intensive care beds could be available especially for Covid-19 patients, “but then the possibilities run out,” warns the LH.
Look for no loopholes
“That is why images alienate us, especially of shopping centers and malls, where you get the impression that things are going as usual there. That great gatherings take place, that people sit down and consume together, ”says Stelzer. And because the situation is so tense and serious, a regulation prohibiting “staying and consuming” in shopping malls will come into force in Upper Austria on Friday.
This means that chairs and tables in catering establishments, some of which are currently closed anyway, cannot be used for regular “hanging out”.
Because it cannot be that one looks for loopholes to continue as before, clarifies Stelzer. “The point now is that we avoid contacts and cut them drastically,” Stelzer said. He regrets that such measures have to be taken again, but the number of infected people has to be drastically reduced and everyone must do their part.
