When special police forces gained access with an explosive charge a few hours after the attack and broke in, they found the furniture attached as a possible cover for an exchange of gunfire.
This allows for two conclusions: either the 20-year-old had prepared himself in the event that his attack plans might be exposed prematurely, or he hoped to survive his attack and wage the final showdown with the police within his own four walls. .
In the apartment itself, emergency services also seized adhesive tapes that the 20-year-old had used to repair his fake explosive belt. Boxes of ammunition that he had fired with a Zastava M70 assault rifle were also found.
