The 59-year-old from Linz drove at 11 am on the B124 coming from Pregarten towards Linz. At the same time, a 22-year-old was driving an ambulance from Linz in the direction of Pregarten. There were two other paramedics in the passenger seat and in the back of the ambulance.
For an as yet unknown cause, the ambulance entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with the car approaching the Linzerin. Due to the force of the collision, the car went off the road and hit a tree. The driver was trapped in his vehicle. The three occupants of the rescue vehicle were able to free themselves, set the rescue chain in motion and attempted to provide first aid to the casualty. The alarmed fire department had to remove the woman from the vehicle using a shock rescue with a hydraulic rescue device. The emergency team tried to revive the patient, but without success. Linzerin died at the scene of the accident.
The two paramedics in the ambulance, as well as the driver, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Linz accident hospital with the ambulance. The Linz prosecution seized both vehicles and an autopsy was ordered.
