Due to the increase in the number of corona, the closing of schools has recently been discussed again. This is what the representatives of the teachers say.
Crown numbers continue to increase considerably in Austria. Health Minister Anschober has already announced a tightening if there is no improvement. The upper level is already in “Distance Education”.
There is also great uncertainty among the teachers union. “Distance weakens the relationship work that is important to children,” explains Thomas Bulant, federal president of the SLÖ.
“Due to the pandemic, the school can no longer offer much to motivate and support students in the acquisition of skills. Only healthy and protected teachers can minimize learning deficits within the Corona generation,” he emphasizes in a broadcast, demanding five points the federal government.
Shift work will be reintroduced
If there were a tightening of the locks in the future, the SLÖ would like the extended school autonomy to meet the various challenges that need to be secured.
The union is also calling on the federal government to open the way to shift work in schools. According to Bulant, the zipper closure system already had epidemiological and educational success early last summer.
Influenza Vaccine and FFP2 Masks
Pregnant teachers must also be protected by working from home. The SLÖ wants influenza vaccination and delivery of the announced FFP2 masks to begin in all educational institutions.
The last requirement refers to the expansion of the job plan to ensure a pedagogically efficient division of functions.
