The state of Upper Austria is changing its testing strategy and only wants to test Category 1 contact persons if they have symptoms. Because these people would have to be quarantined regardless of a positive or negative test result. This helps authorities focus on the new chains of infection, according to a press release from the health official LHStv. Christine Haberlander (ÖVP) on Monday.

The change in testing strategy should lead to an understanding of the infection chains. All persons who report symptoms below the 1450 number are also screened and considered suspicious cases. It will also not change anything in tests on sensitive areas. The goal here is to reduce wait times and isolate those affected as soon as possible.

“The situation is serious”

Recognition of positive antigen tests without a subsequent PCR test in symptomatic individuals would also contribute significantly to clarification. “There are already good discussions with the Federal Ministry of Health to acknowledge the results of these tests and thus provide relief,” Haberlander said.

“The best rules don’t help if people don’t obey them. I make a new and urgent appeal to all High Austrians: the situation is serious, even very serious. If we adhere to the measures, we wear masks, we keep our distance, that’s how we stick together, ”he insisted.
