The quarantine obligation applies in principle to all Bavarian returnees who have been in Tyrol or another risk zone for more than 24 hours, as well as to all foreigners who remain in Germany for more than 24 hours. Until now, the grace period was double. According to the Robert Koch Institute, all of Austria has been considered a Covid risk area since November 1, with the exception of the Jungholz and Mittelberg / Kleinwalsertal communities.
Bavarian Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU) had emphasized that trips to go shopping or to see the doctor should still be possible. “However, the Bavarian Ministry of Health asks people to refrain from unnecessary travel and limit contacts whenever possible.”
However, as in all of Germany, the quarantine requirement will be shortened when entering from a risk zone abroad: it will be reduced from 14 to 10 days. Travelers can end the quarantine prematurely with a negative test result after at least five days of isolation. The test may have been carried out no earlier than five days after entering Germany.
As a basis, the German federal government has presented the 16 federal states with a model ordinance. However, this must be legally implemented by the respective state governments. “Essentially, the Bavarian Entry Quarantine Ordinance (EQV) has implemented the requirements of the model ordinance,” Huml said. “However, there is still a regular testing obligation for cross-border travelers in Bavaria.”
This means that commuters and others who travel to a neighboring country for work must be tested every week. Soldiers from NATO countries and high-ranking diplomats, among others, are exempt from quarantine regulations.
