A police officer (57) was hit by a car on Saturday in Styria during an accident and was fatally injured.
Around 7:00 pm, a patrol from the Wies police station was ordered to register a traffic accident involving roe deer on Sulmtal Strasse B78 in Dörfla (Deutschlandsberg district). The two policemen parked the service vehicle on the side of the road with their blue lights on.
The car involved in the wildlife accident was also on the road and had turned on its hazard warning lights. A 63-year-old hunter was already there and found the injured deer on the opposite side of the road in a ditch. A 57-year-old police officer approached the hunter from across the street.

At the same time, a 51-year-old woman from the Leibnitz district drove up from St. Martin im Sulmtal with her car. According to the police, the driver surprised the two men on the edge of the road. The hunter and the policeman were thrown into the ditch.
The 63-year-old hunter suffered indeterminate injuries and was admitted to the LKH Südweststeiermark. The 57-year-old police officer was mortally wounded and any help came too late for him.
The driver explained that when she approached the scene of the accident, she focused on the hazard lights and flashing lights and had not seen the people on the other side of the street. He immediately stopped and provided first aid with the rest of the people present.
