Eight suspects who were arrested in connection with the Islamist terror attacks in Vienna have been jailed. Court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn announced Friday afternoon. Those now detained are between 16 and 24 years old and some have relevant criminal records.
A total of 16 men were arrested. Six of them were released again. With them, the suspicion would not have been confirmed, said the spokeswoman for the prosecution, Nina Bussek. Two suspects have not yet been admitted to the jails.
The preventive detention imposed on the eight men is legally effective until November 21. You are strongly suspected of having contributed to the crimes of murder, participation in a terrorist group and a criminal organization by supporting the murderer in the run-up to the attack. The reasons for custody are the risk of flight, the risk of blackout and also the risk of committing a crime.
Suspects can file a complaint against pretrial detention within 14 days; the Vienna Higher Regional Court will decide on this. For reasons of tactical investigations, the authorities did not reveal further details about the content of the defendants’ statements and further information.
