On Thursday the two WEGA officials who confronted the Vienna attacker in the attack and shot him down were honored. They received a medal of merit from Chancellor Kurz and Interior Minister Nehammer.

WEGA officers received the gold medal on the red ribbon for services to the Republic of Austria, the so-called lifeguard medal, after their deployment to the city center of Vienna, in which the killer was killed.

After the attack in Vienna: honest policemen

“The work of the police officer is challenging and dangerous. You two have saved the lives of many other people with your courageous and determined action, putting their lives at risk,” the two ÖVP politicians declared in a joint statement.

WEGA officials would never forget their mission

WEGA officials declared that they will never forget the mission: “It will burn the memory of all colleagues.” WEGA is said to have worked closely with the patrol officers. Many comrades went into action on their own initiative: “That was camaraderie.”
