Champions League: individual review of FC Salzburg – Bayern Munich

[ad_1]

How bitter!

FC Salzburg challenged FC Bayern for 80 minutes on matchday three of the Champions League at the highest level, but fell into a 2: 6 debacle due to a complete crash in the final minutes (match report >>>) .

The result in the Red Bull Arena, however, does not reflect the performance of the “bulls” by any means. On the contrary, Salzburg have been on par with Bayern for the longest time and have therefore earned a lot of praise despite the big bankruptcy.

LAOLA1 analyzes the performance of all the players in Salzburg and distributes the marks (1 = very good, 2 = good, 3 = satisfactory, 4 = sufficient, 5 = insufficient).

CICAN STANKOVIC – 90 Minuten – Note 3

The 27-year-old has come under fire in recent weeks. This time he conceded six goals, but scored significantly better than in the first two games. In the 11th minute he was already dribbled by Gnabry and he was lucky that Ramalho cleared the line for him. On the penalty, Lewandowski charged it in classic fashion. In minutes 57 and 61, the ÖFB goalkeeper was able to undo two strong saves against Gnabry and thus kept Salzburg in the game. After 2: 3, in which Stankovic had no chance, the “bulls” were broken. Even with the last three goals he couldn’t do anything.

RASMUS KRISTENSEN – 90 minutes – Note 3

The Dane didn’t deserve the own goal shortly before half-time, but ultimately had no chance as he tried to clear Müller’s cross. He made Coman look old over and over with his extremely physically robust playstyle. His enormous defensive strength materialized against Bayern for a long time. The fact that he didn’t cover adequately in 2: 3 Boateng spoils a very strong performance and initiated the change. Even at 2: 5, he did not get into the aerial duel with Lewandowski.

ANOTHER RAMALHO – 90 Minutes – Note 3

The Brazilian got off to a really strong start, saving after 11 minutes on the line, in 16 minutes he headed against the attacking world-class newcomer. However, at 1: 2, Ramalho entered the duel with Müller with too much indecision and at least he must not be removed from service. He made up for this mistake with a great conquest of the ball and an even better pass to Okugawa, which the Japanese pushed to make it 2-2. Even with 2: 4 you have to consider Ramalho with a sloppy pass to Camara in the chain of errors, with 2: 5 you can’t get him out of debt either.

MAXIMILIAN WÖBER – 90 minutes – Grade 4

He was back in good physical shape in time after an injury against Atlético, but the Viennese’s head should not have been 100% after the attack at the beginning. The careless opening passes were dragged over and over again. At 1: 2 he was one of the main culprits with a poorly timed entry. In the second half, Wöber leveled off, not necessarily his fault the “Bulls” caught four more hits after switching sides.

ANDREAS ULMER – 90 minutes – Grade 3

Against Bayern, the 35-year-old could not be deprived of his offensive drive, repeatedly launched good attacks from his side and had Gnabry under control as far as possible. After 2: 3, the captain moved forward one row and could no longer help avoid clear defeat.

ENOCK MWEPU -90 Minuten – Note 3

In his lack of penalty against Müller, the Zambian acted overly motivated, but there were always good offensive actions. Immediately after the break, only Neuer had something against his draw. All in all again a solid performance from Mwepu, but he has a feeling a bit more could be done.

ZLATKO JUNUZOVIC – up to minute 65 – grade 3

In a new position in the center of left field, the veteran performed extremely well as usual and always had good ideas and impulses in the offensive game. The 33-year-old did not hit a decisive action until he was substituted, Junuzovic only saw the applause in the final sprint from the side.

MOHAMED CAMERA – 90 Minutes – Note 1

Next world-class performance against a world-class opponent of the young Malian. He even bought the Bayern stars with his hugely upsetting duel, and he kept winning big balls, although the subsequent processing didn’t always work out as expected. The 2: 4 and thus the broken neck of Salzburg is on Camara’s cap, but the 20-year-old cannot be blamed for the loss of the ball, after all, it was given to the band for take the risk.

DOMINIK ROOMS – 90 Minutes – Note 3

Like the entire team, the young Hungarian acted a bit hastily in the opening minutes, kicked off Gnabry’s big opportunity with a catastrophic bad pass in his own 16 and was very lucky that his Hernandez penalty was withdrawn by the VAR. In the newly formed Salzburg offense, however, he harmonized brilliantly with Berisha and Koita and in the first round repeatedly introduced dangerous situations with thoughtful dribbling and good standards. In the second half, however, Szoboszlai disappeared completely, and the 19-year-old achieved nothing after switching sides.

MERGIM BERISHA – bis zur 76. Minute – Note 1

The 22-year-old from Berchtesgaden improved himself against his fellow Bavarians once again this season and put in an excellent performance. He started Salzburg’s first goal with an incredible dribble in midfield and later gave Manuel Neuer no chance with a well-placed shot. Time after time Berisha put her body in a super clean state against Bayern’s world-class defense and ensured a good amount of activity. In the last section he had to go down and only saw the bitter end from the bench.

SEKOU KOITA – up to minute 65 – grade 2

Hansi Flick had warned against the fast Zambian before the game, and rightly so as it quickly turned out. The boisterous Zambian, who was called up in the front row, caused Alaba and company enormous problems with his speed, worked extremely annoyingly against the ball, but unfortunately he didn’t always make the right decision in the last third. The 1-0 assist belongs to him with a deflected attempt. In the 65th minute, he was completely replaced after incredible mileage.

NOAH OKAFOR – from minute 65 – grade 3

The Swiss wanted to build on the momentum from his hat trick of the weekend and managed to do it for the most part. Shortly after being substituted, he played a dangerous cross pass to Okugawa, in the 72nd minute he made a misstep on the way to goal alone and thus a very non-dangerous situation. If Okafor makes it 3-2 in this action, the game will end differently.

MASAYA OKUGAWA – substituted in the 65th minute – grade 2

There is no better way to start a Champions League game after being substituted. In his first action, the Japanese slipped a pass from Okafor-Stangl through a very thin layer, in his second action, after a dream from Ramalho, he scored his first goal for CL and tied.

JEROME ONGUENE – ab der 76. Minute – Note 4

He entered the game in the 76th minute to stabilize the Salzburg defense, but the exact opposite happened. You can’t blame the Cameroonian just for scoring four goals after being substituted, but Onguene isn’t entirely innocent either.
