On the first day of the second crown lockdown, there were only provisional figures for Austria from the authorities as of Tuesday afternoon. 4,182 new infections were reported in 24 hours. However, figures for Lower Austria were not included as they could not be recorded for technical reasons, according to the Health Ministry.
Most cases concerned Upper Austria with 1,098 new infections, in Vienna there were 830, in Styria 592, in Tirol 560, in Vorarlberg 500, in Salzburg 236, in Carinthia 234 and in Burgenland 132.
As of today, 1,192 people in Austria have died as a result of the coronavirus and 74,292 have recovered. The number of hospitalizations has increased considerably again. There are currently 2,431 people in hospital treatment for coronavirus – there were 2,161 on Monday – and 366 of them are in intensive care units (336 the day before). 118,198 people have tested positive since the start of the pandemic and 42,714 people are currently infected.
