At least one police officer was killed in a shooting in central Vienna near Schwedenplatz on Monday night. The event took place near the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien (IKG) and its synagogue. One perpetrator was arrested after an exchange of gunfire and possible others were being sought.

Minister of the Interior: “Apparently terrorist attack”
According to various media reports, it is said that this is an attack on the Seitenstettengasse synagogue. The Home Office spoke to the APA of a terrorist attack or riot. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) later said that it was “apparently a terrorist attack”.
