WAC Sovereign Victory! The ‘Elfer-König’ Liendl also attacks Admira

The internationally successful WAC has also returned to winning ways in the national Bundesliga. Three days after the 4-1 win at Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Europa League, Michael Liendl and company celebrated a completely secure 3-1 (3-0) victory in the sixth round of the Bundesliga in Admira on Saturday, alone the second in 2020/21. Curious: As against Feyenoord, Liendl scored twice from the penalty spot (12th, 23rd).

The WAC was successful in the dress rehearsal for EL’s upcoming performance on Thursday at Dinamo Zagreb. Eliel Peretz contributed the third goal for the guests (37th). In the Bundesliga, Ferdinand Feldhofer’s side regained some ground and improved to seventh after three suite losses with six points. He admires, for his part, that he only succeeded with an own goal from Nemanja Rnic in the final (88th), conceded the second loss in a row and is just one point ahead of the last Ried in eleventh place.

Only one team played in Südstadt from the start: WAC, in which five players were left on the bench against Rotterdam’s 4-1 Europa League, namely Dominik Baumgartner, Mario Leitgeb, Matthäus Taferner, Cheikhou Dieng and Dejan Joveljic. Even without these regulars, the Carinthians dominated at will and went ahead in the 12th minute: Captain Liendl did not miss the chance from the penalty spot after a forward foul on Christopher Wernitznig.

Michael Novak took the next penalty against Josef Ganda about ten minutes later, and Liendl was there again. However, the 35-year-old only found himself on the second try. Goalkeeper Andreas Leitner kept the lead, but referee Manuel Schüttengruber made the goalkeeper repeat for the goalkeeper’s movements. But that wasn’t enough, after Kai Stratznig’s beautiful pass down a steep hole, Peretz rose to 3-0 towards the end of the first half, the first Israeli Bundesliga.

This basically tells the story of the game. What happened in the second part was similar to the first, although the Admira seemed a little more active. Aside from a header from Ganda, which was hit by WAC goalkeeper Alexander Kofler (81st), the home side did not play a single chance. The only goal was consequently an own goal from WAC: shortly before the end, Rnic was unable to get a pass back to Kofler’s capital.
