After last Monday’s highly controversial demonstration in central Vienna, critics of the corona pandemic measures called for more demonstrations. According to police spokesman Paul Eidenberger, the biggest event will be a rally at Heldenplatz, which is registered for 15,000 participants from 12 noon to 6.30 p.m. The rally is also approved. “The risk potential is classified as low, we are taking on a peaceful rally,” Eidenberger said in an interview with KURIER.
After that, the same groups recorded a trip around the ring with lights and a march from Heldenplatz to the Burgtheater and back via Ballhausplatz. Two smaller rallies have also been recorded.
At Maria-Theresien-Platz there is a street party as a counterattack against Corona’s critics, which is scheduled from 3pm to 10pm. This rally is registered for about 500 participants. “The meetings are accompanied by us,” Eidenberger said. Participants would have to wait “for the executive to intervene” when there are violations of the law. The police have about 350 officers on duty.
In addition to the meetings already described, there will be more demonstrations on Saturday: “There are a total of 58 events in Vienna, a typical Saturday,” summarized the police spokesman.
