Amid the crown crisis and nine years late, Berlin’s new BER airport will open on Saturday (2pm) with the first two landings. An Easyjet plane from Tegel airport and a Lufthansa flight from Munich will land at the same time on the two runways of the former Schönefeld airport and BER. The new airport is now considered open. There will be no official celebration in view of the corona pandemic.
A second completed passenger terminal will not be unlocked at all at the moment due to the crown-related collapse in passenger numbers, but will instead be planned for next year. Even multiple postponements, tripled construction costs, and years of delays don’t make BER the best party atmosphere. Of course, the best German politicians are expected. This also applies to the heads of Lufthansa and Easyjet.
The first plane with BER-checked passengers will take off for London on Sunday morning. The BER government terminal has been in operation since last week.
