There is still some hope regarding the announced cancellation of the Salzburg Christmas market. Mayor Harry Preuner (ÖVP) announced yesterday that the market could not be approved due to the increasing number of infections and an imminent closure. Now the celebration of an “abbreviated” Christmas market is in the room.

After a conversation today with the president of the Christkindlmarkt Association, Wolfgang Haider, the two have kept open the option of a later start with an extension until 6 January. “If the situation improves in the near future, so that there is a true calm of the epidemic and we move away from the red light again, then it is conceivable to celebrate the Salzburg Christmas market. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible,” Preuner explained.

Christkindlmarkt actually canceled

The Salzburg Christmas Market, which attracts more than a million visitors a year, should have taken place at Dom and Residenzplatz from November 19 to December 26 this year.
