After a small detour in the direction of “yellow”, the crown traffic light in the Melk district has so far mainly flashed “orange”. Now the district, like most of Lower Austria, has changed to “red”. Only the Hollabrunn, Horn, Mistelbach and Scheibbs districts glow “orange” in the state.
40 infections in two days in the district
The traffic light commission’s decision to turn all of Austria to “red” for the first time is based on the increasing number of infections and fear of the capacity of hospitals. The number of infected people is also increasing in the Melk district, as district captain Norbert Haselsteiner reports to the NÖN: at the beginning of the week (Tuesday), 110 people had tested positive for the virus, as of today (Thursday) the district already has 40 more cases: 150 positive tests for covid. As reported by NÖN this week, the second crown station at Melker Spital will reopen due to the high number of cases.
Quick reaction in Melk to the “red switch”
“Now exactly what I feared days ago has happened,” says Patrick Strobl, vice president of the city of Melk, via Facebook and announces tougher measures for the district capital. “Starting Monday, our community service staff will go back to doing their work in individual task forces, guard services will be established; restricted party traffic will also continue and, if necessary, tighten up, ”he said.
District in “red” – what applies now?
How does the “red light” affect the hospital, as well as the district health centers, restaurants and kindergartens? The NÖN sums up.
- In hospitals, visits are limited to delivery, children’s and palliative rooms.
- In healthcare centers a maximum of two visits per day with two people each is possible.
- The kindergartens remain open. However, parents are advised to take care of children at home.
- The planned transfer of the curfew in the restaurant sector at 22.00 does not apply. The curfew remains at 1 am
