SK Rapid Wien also suffered a narrow defeat on matchday two of the Europa League group stage. The Hütteldorfer lose at Molde FK with 0: 1 (0: 0).
Norway’s home team has had the first half under control for a long time. Rapid goalkeeper Paul Gartler, who surprisingly gets called up in place of Richard Strebinger, has to intervene several times, but Rapid keeps zero with some top saves. In addition, the Hütteldorfer are also lucky that Ohi Omoijuanfo did not hit the empty goal (36th).
Rapid can only show up on offense towards the end of the first half. Marcel Ritzmaier was about to lead the Viennese in the lead shortly before the half-time whistle, but his long-range shot only bounced off pole (43rd).
Rapid’s game barely improved in the second half. In the 65th minute, Molde turned his chances to advantage. Omoijuanfo hits the spot after a cross pass and catches the ball in goal.
The Viennese then step up their offensive efforts a bit, but it’s no longer enough to equalize. Ercan Kara leaves the best chance (74th).
In the second match of Group B, Arsenal FC did not let anything pass against Dundalk and won 3-0 at home. Nketiah (42nd), Willock (44th) and Pepe (46th) score the goals for the “Gunners”.
Arsenal and Molde have six points after two matchdays, and Arsenal are the first due to better goal difference. Rapid and Dundalk still have zero points, but the Viennese have the best goal difference.
Gartler surprisingly at the door
Quick coach Didi Kühbauer surprises with his lineup. Instead of Richard Strebinger, who was not always sovereign in the end, Paul Gartler is in goal, who delivers a strong performance and defuses some good chances.
In central defense, 19-year-old Leo Greiml comes into play instead of the slightly battered Maximilian Hofmann.
They are both equally challenged, because the Norwegian champions dominated the game from the start. Gartler is there for a header from Kristoffer Haugen (9th) and against Omoijuanfo (18th). Omoijuanfo missed the biggest opportunity for the home crowd when he could not get the ball correctly in front of the empty goal (36th).
Little emerging from Rapid
Rapid can only set a few offensive accents in the final phase of the first half. Shortly before the break, there are only centimeters to go when goalkeeper Andreas Linde directs a shot from Marcel Ritzmaier to the inside post (43.).
Even after the change, Molde takes command again and has good opportunities. Initially Gartler was the winner again in the duel with Omoijuanfo (55th), Fredrik Aursnes did not get the ball into the goal either.
In the 65th minute, however, the Norwegians reward each other for their constant efforts. Omoijuanfo uses a Haugen Stanglpass to take the lead.
So Rapid becomes more offensively active. Ercan Kara misses the biggest chance to equalize (74th), while Ritzmaier calls for a penalty in vain after a duel in the penalty area.
