Despite Corona, the traditional Christmas markets of the state capital will take place in the main square and in the Volksgarten. To ensure the safety of visitors, the city’s crisis team has now presented a comprehensive prevention concept together with a security expert. The specific measures were presented on Wednesday at a press conference:
Number of visitors: For example, the maximum number of visitors to Christmas markets is regulated so that the minimum necessary distance can be maintained. 1200 people are allowed in the main square and 2300 visitors in the Volksgarten. An electronic people counting system is used for this. Security personnel will monitor the flow of visitors at peak times and there will be markings on the floor in the main hallways. Barriers will be placed around the market area to direct visitors in the appropriate directions.
Hygiene’s norm: Protection of the mouth and nose is mandatory throughout the site. When you’re in line and at the table, keep your distance. Market stall operators are informed about the necessary hygiene measures and a Covid-19 representative from municipal authorities is available to advise vendors on implementation.
Program: Due to generally applicable Corona regulations, the main highlights of the program will be dispensed with this year or will only be carried out under adapted conditions. The popular Christmas tree decoration campaign at Linzer Schlern runs from one to several days. This is to exclude points of contact between the different schools. The Don Bosco campaign is also carried out. The organizers bring the coupons directly to the parish, so that the children can shop at the market at any time.
The Christmas markets in Linz’s main square and in the Volksgarten are open every day from November 21 to December 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (catering until 9 p.m. maximum). The landmark on the main square this year is the Christmas tree donated by Mayor Karl Schneckenleitner from the Traunviertel community of Waldneukirchen, which will be installed on November 5. The Christmas market is installed around the tree in the following days.
