Three killed in highway tunnel truck accident – Carinthia

In a traffic accident on the Südautobahn (A2) in Lavanttal to Vienna, three people died on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old woman from the Graz area drove her car down the Südautobahn (A 2) towards the Großliedl tunnel in the Wolfsberg district towards Vienna at around 3:50 pm. The car came to a sudden stop in the tunnel for reasons that have yet to be explained.

The driver then got out and went to the back of the car. According to police, there were three other people in the car: a 91-year-old man, a 79-year-old woman and a 14-year-old student, all from the Graz area, who stayed in the vehicle.

Car pulled 60 meters

According to the police, a driver of a semi-trailer behind could not immediately recognize the car stopped in the tunnel. The 35-year-old Bosnian driver tried to avoid the truck. However, he captured the 26-year-old who suffered fatal injuries.

The right side of the truck crashed into the rear of the car, which shot about 60 meters forward. The 79-year-old woman sitting in the left rear of the car suffered fatal injuries.

The 91-year-old man in the front passenger seat and the 14-year-old student were rescued from the vehicle by first responders. After receiving first aid from a doctor, the man was transferred to LKH Wolfsberg, where he succumbed to his serious injuries.

Bursch flown to the hospital

The 14-year-old boy was airlifted by rescue helicopter to the Klagenfurt am Wörthersee clinic after receiving first aid from a seriously injured doctor. The truck driver was not injured in the accident. The alcohol test they took came back negative.

By order of the Klagenfurt am Wörthersee prosecutor’s office, a motor vehicle expert was called in to investigate the accident. The Vienna lane was closed to all traffic from 3:50 pm to 8:30 pm There was a detour through the Bad St. Leonhard junction in Lavanttal onto the Packer Federal Highway.

Three fire brigades from the Wolfsberg district with eleven vehicles and a total of 54 men were in action, the Wolfsberg RK with NAW, the C 11 rescue helicopter and the employees of the Wolfsberg motorway maintenance facility.
