This was announced by the Minister of Justice, Alma Zadic (Verde), at a press conference in Asten on Tuesday. The expansion, estimated at 17 million euros, should be completed by the end of 2022. At the same time, the director general of the penal system, Friedrich Knig, introduced the new headline: As reported in advance ON, Martin Kitzberger will take on this task on 1 November.
Your order must not be indisputable. Kitzberger had previously been acting director of the institute and was evidently rejected there. The Wels prosecution has launched investigations after an anonymous complaint was received on suspicion of abuse of power. It should be about staffing.
King confirms announcements
King confirmed that anonymous reports had been made against Kitzberger over and over again. However, “there was no reason for legal consequences,” Knig said in defense of the appointment. Kitzberger emerged as the best of the audience, how many candidates had run, the CEO did not announce.
He responded to media reports of repeated incidents at the prison: “Asten works.” There are about 140 reports of inappropriate behavior per year. These also include a violation of the cell phone ban.
“Acute need for action”
Zadic justified the need for expansion at Asten with the sharp increase in incompetent violators. Since the bloody rally at Vienna’s Brunnenmarkt in 2016, the number has increased by 60 percent. This places a “huge burden on the judiciary” and at the same time an “acute need for action,” he said. To maintain a humane implementation of the measures, he needs money to be delivered from the 2021 budget. The minister spoke of a “change of course” and, therefore, the end of “the silent death of the judiciary.” An additional 65 million euros are available in the next budget. In addition, 60 new positions are foreseen for healthcare personnel.
