Crown: Schützenhöfer for interventions in private

“For certain cases, for certain times,” he said in the “Kurier” (Tuesday edition). Schützenhöfer also speaks out against the demands of his fellow party members to shorten the quarantine of K1’s contacts.

With health challenges like Corona there are “restrictions on freedom,” Schützenhöfer explained. He was in favor of the restrictions “where they can be explained,” the governor said. “I don’t want to look in the bedroom, but when you have excesses at private parties in a basement or in a garden shed, you have to be able to solve it.” He was in favor of “that here we are looking for a constitutionally viable path” in which the other parties are also involved.

Against a shorter quarantine

Schützenhöfer, who recently had to isolate himself, does not think much about the request from his party colleague, Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP), to shorten the quarantine period of K1 contact persons in tourism from ten to five days to be able to “break free”: Studies would not allow it. “I think shortening it for certain groups is dangerous anyway, because why exactly are you doing this for them? And to me there is also no indication that you should shorten the quarantine period for everyone.” ÖVP chief and chancellor Sebastian Kurz had recently spoken in favor of a shorter quarantine.

Schützenhöfer is also currently rejecting other measures announced by Kurz: “Just because two districts in Styria are red, one is pushing for measures such as an early curfew or mandatory registration at the inn. But I do not see that it is ahead there is fewer infections “. The real contagion occurred in the celebrations of the associations in the communities: the members of the Styrian government can no longer participate in such celebrations, they should be postponed or canceled, warns Schützenhöfer.

Criticism of the government

In general, the governor’s criticism of the federal government makes people sit up and pay attention: On key points like the curfew or the mask requirement, he thinks it would be better if it were uniformly proceeded across the country. The “main problem”, however, is “that on the one hand we have lost common ground in government in recent months,” Schützenhöfer said. “There are very divergent opinions between the Popular Party and the Greens on how to proceed. Measures are announced that will not come because they could not agree.” And it is “regrettable to note that cooperation, harmony, solidarity between the federal government and the states no longer really works.” Regarding his own federal party leader, however, Schützenhöfer emphasizes: “The Federal Chancellor tries very hard.”

Schützenhöfer would not welcome the new measures to help the economy. The government’s announcement “whatever it takes” at the start of the pandemic “really scared him.” Fixed-cost replacement could perhaps be allowed until spring, “beyond that.”

Start against controls in the private sector

Health Minister Rudi Anschober (Greens) rejects the Styrian governor’s request for crown controls in the private sector. The Covid Measures Act excludes controls in private housing areas, and that is also “fundamentally correct,” Anschober said on Tuesday at Ö1 “Morgenjournal”. He believed that “the vast majority of people are capable of following clear recommendations.”

The Minister of Health does not think of creating such legal possibilities and instead referred to the current legal situation. Your job is to implement this law. Instead, Anschober appealed once again to individual responsibility, everyone must be part of the solution.

When it comes to a new lockdown due to the sharp increase in the number of infections, Anschober was reluctant: the law has a good regulation that states that the health system would have to collapse for such a measure. “We are far from that,” he emphasized. Of course, he added, this could change quickly if daily monitoring was done. I would only recognize an overload when intensive care beds were used 60 to 70 percent, “there is still air.”

The statements of Franz Allerberger, infectious agent of the state health agency AGES, that it cannot be believed that the virus is eradicated, but that “each one of us will contract it sooner or later, unless we die sooner” (reported the OÖN), Anschober does not share them. This is an individual opinion that must also be expressed by a scientist.
