Corona’s numbers for the national holiday are a surprise. For weeks there had been most of the new infections in Vienna. No longer.
The Ministry of the Interior reported on Monday (October 26) 2,456 new infections with the coronavirus in 24 hours. A dramatic increase to more than double the comparison day of the previous week.
The corona virus is still spreading too quickly in Austria. But as today’s figures show in detail, there has apparently been a change. In recent weeks, the federal capital Vienna recorded the largest increase in positive test results in absolute terms every day.
On today’s national holiday, Vienna was overtaken by another federal state in its tragic superior position: Although there were “only” 500 cases in Vienna, the Upper Austrian Ministry of the Interior reported 612 new infections.

As of today (October 26, 2020, 9:30 am), 992 people in Austria have died as a result of the corona virus and 59,036 have recovered. There are currently 1,330 people in hospital treatment for coronavirus, 188 of them in intensive care units.
