SK Sturm Graz is in the 5th round of the Tipico Bundesliga a 2-0 away win against him SV Riedwithdrawn. Goals were scored by Stefan Hierländer (9th) and Ivan Ljubic (78th) against the newcomer, who had to deal with personal problems and had to fake numerous regular players. Sturm remains undefeated in the current league season. Ried, however, suffered the fourth loss in a row.
Hierländer secures the quick lead in Graz with a good shot
The newcomer had to face the game against Sturm Graz very weakened: with Sahin-Radliner, Wiessmeier, Bajic, Boateng, Offenbacher, Lackner, Paintsil and Grüll, eight players were eliminated. More recently, the Rieder had to struggle with some positive corona tests. Daniliuc made his debut in the starting eleven in goal. Canadi and Sulley also debuted today in the Bundesliga.
And the many flaws were definitely noticed in the Rieders, so Sturm quickly checked what was going on. The guests found the first big opportunity of the game: Friesenbichler fired after a cross pass from Jantscher at the second bar, but only hit aluminum (8th). A minute later, the Styrians hit the crossbar again, but this time luck followed and the ball bounced off the goal: after a long serve and a head extension from Reiner, the shot found its way into the goal through the inner bar. 0: 1 (ninth).
The Grazers had the game under control, letting the ball pass safely through their own ranks, but without getting dangerous. In terms of possibilities, the game at the josko arena in Ried didn’t have much to offer. Storm goalkeeper Jörg Siebenhandl had almost nothing to do in the first half. On the other hand, rookie Daniliuc wasn’t really tested either. In Hierländer’s 0: 1, however, he was powerless. Shortly before the break, the Graz team had a double chance: at first, Kuen missed from a tight angle to Daniliuc, before he fired past the far corner from his own position.
Ried comes out of cockpit improved, but Sturm leaves nothing to burn excessively
Both teams returned to the Josko-Arena field without personnel changes. The second 45 minutes began quite animated, because the Rieder came out of the cockpit with greater confidence in itself. The body language was completely different from the first half. However, the hosts were lucky that a mistake by Daniliuc did not lead to a 2-0 draw. The debutant goalkeeper dropped the ball after a corner from Kuen, but a Rieder could clear it in dire need (51).
The newcomer was able to make the game more open, even though the great chances of scoring were slim. The big surprise came in the 67th minute when Constantin Reiner fouled Kevin Friesenbichler. To the surprise of many, referee Lechner showed a soft red. An extremely controversial decision …
And numerically superior Grazer scratched the preliminary decision: Initially, Ljubic failed with his attempt on pole (73rd), before Jantscher failed in free practice against Daniliuc (76th). Two minutes later, the guests from Graz made everything clear. After Rieder fumbled the ball, the Styrians switched at lightning speed, Jantscher took off into the penalty area but missed Daniliuc, but the ball fell right in front of the feet of Ivan Ljubic, who pushed the leather over the line – 0: 2 (78) And SK Sturm’s victory could have been greater, as a long-range hammer from Hierländer hit the crossbar (85th). In the end, Graz celebrated a well-deserved 2-0 away win against the ailing Rieder.
