The incident was observed by two witnesses. Based on their description of the perpetrator and the indicated escape direction, police officers were able to arrest a 45-year-old man from Linz in the area of the railway bridge construction site. One of the two statues, not exactly cheap, was still floating upside down in the water, the other could no longer be found.
