The Innviertel people are closely related to their Bavarian neighbors. But mutual “visits” to the other side of the border will be drastically reduced again, unpleasant memories of the closure are awakened. As reported, Germany has issued a travel advisory for Upper Austria. This applies as of Saturday, October 24. What does this mean for border traffic? “Basically, Austrians can only stay in Germany with prior quarantine,” said a spokesman for the Bavarian State Health and Care Ministry in Munich when asked by OÖN.
Commuters, urgent medical reasons or social aspects such as visiting a couple who do not live in the same household are excluded. “Buying, for example, is not one of them,” explains the spokesperson. You can enter at any time, combined with quarantine or until November 8 with a negative PCR test (max. 48 hours old).
Legal loophole for Germans
Germans are advised to avoid postponed trips to Austria. But they also have a legal vacuum: those who have been in a risk zone for less than 48 hours and whose stay was not used to participate privately in a cultural event, a sporting event, a public festival or any other leisure event, they can without “consequences” travel home.
In simple terms: the trip to the gas station and the shopping trip from Bavaria in Innviertel are theoretically possible, without any consequences on the trip back to Germany. “The basic idea of the entry and quarantine regulations is to protect travelers, ensure social and cross-border contacts (family ties, associations) or medical care. But avoid everything that can be avoided, ”says the spokesman. This is “reasonable” for a time, according to the ministry. Like the Ried and Schärding districts, parts of neighboring Bavaria are also facing a sharp increase in the number of infections.
The requirements have been tightened recently for the Rottal-Inn district, among others. In Simbach, masks are required in the area of the train station, including the bus station, and alcohol is prohibited at night. This also applies to Kirchenplatz, including the Sparkassenpark. In Tittmoning (Traunstein district) opposite the Braunau municipalities of Ostermiething and St. Radegund, the town hall will be “closed” on Monday, direct party traffic will cease on Monday. Possibility of appointments.
Challenge for authorities
With the travel advisory across Germany, the next wave is heading towards the Innviertel district authorities: since the public announcement, the phones have been running even hotter than they already were due to the many questions and tracking of contacts about the corona virus. Life in the Bavarian border region is particularly intertwined.
Lines of concern in Schärding
“This travel advisory is not something to please us,” says the mayor of Schärding, Franz Angerer, overlooking Bavaria.
The growing number of infected people in the Schärding district is “very worrying” for him. Expect the top to be reached soon, Angerer said. “Everyone can contribute to this by minimizing social contacts. That is also my urgent call to the population,” Angerer said.
In the city of Schärding, eight people have “tested positive” today. As of Thursday 12 noon, 169 people were registered as infected in the Schärding district, 179 people in the Ried district and 104 in the much more populated Braunau district (Mala / sedi / tst).
