The number of corona infections continues to rise in Salzburg. From Saturday (October 24), there will be a blanket ban on visits to the two university hospitals, Landeskrankenhaus and Christian Doppler Klinik campus, until further notice, the Salzburger Landeskliniken (SALK) announced in a broadcast on Thursday.

“This serves to protect our patients, but also our employees,” explains Paul Sungler, managing director of the Salzburg state clinics and, at the same time, head of the state medical staff.

Visits ban: possible exceptions

Exceptions are possible for young parents in the maternity ward, for relatives of patients in palliative situations, and in university geriatrics and psychiatry clinics after consultation with the respective university clinics. In all cases, however, the above rules apply: One visit per patient per day for one hour. The extensive bans on visiting state clinics in Hallein and Tamsweg, which are already in effect, remain in effect.

Uniklinikum Salzburg: Nursing staff abused by visitors

There are already cases at the Salzburg University Hospital in which the coronavirus was introduced by hospital visitors. Furthermore, situations where the above visiting rules and hygiene rules (mask requirement) are not adhered to would increase at the two locations of the Salzburg University Hospital. In some cases, the nursing staff were verbally abused by aggressive visitors; in individual cases, apparently even a security service had to be called in to help.
