A 58-year-old driver from the Steyr-Land district was driving a fully loaded concrete mixer truck in Garsten on Eisen Bundesstrasse B 115 on Wednesday afternoon. For unknown reasons, he lost the precast concrete while driving down the concrete chute in the back of the truck. After about 2.5 km, other road users were able to draw the driver’s attention to the problem and stop him.
On the affected section of the road, the strange cement rain caused average chaos: dozens of victims stopped with their vehicles in the ditch. Damage ranged from broken glass and peeling paint to simple dirt. The road maintenance depot in Steyr was asked to establish speed limits and danger signs. Street cleaning is carried out by the sweeper of the polluting company.
Until the cleanup job was completed, Eisenstrasse was difficult to get through. The exact number of victims is unknown, according to the police, but it is estimated between 25 and 30.
