Currently, there are no considerations for quarantining other communities in Salzburg. The governor appealed to citizens to reduce contacts. “It doesn’t matter how many measures we can take. If people don’t take them, it becomes more and more difficult.”
Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) made a statement Wednesday afternoon about the current Covid situation in the state. The number of infections would increase throughout the country with different intensities. When it comes to new infections, Salzburg now ranks second in Austria. “The dynamics are unimaginable. The numbers have quadrupled in 14 days,” Haslauer said. At Tennengau, however, the summit appears to have been passed. “Here we see a slight decrease in cases.” It is similar, at an extremely high level, in Kuchl.
Haslauer denies the rumors
Haslauer denied that the country is considering quarantining other places. There are currently no considerations. But: “We can only decide from one week to another.” It will be judged next week whether Kuchl’s quarantine will be lifted or extended on November 2.
The number of infections has also increased considerably in Grossarl recently. That is why this place has been treated intensively, Haslauer emphasized. “There we can see that the situation has stabilized at a high level. The groups are clearly traceable.” However, it was ordered that the police monitor and control compliance with the quarantine of people. All employees at hotels that are still open would be retested in the lead up to next week’s fall break. In general, it is therefore justifiable not to quarantine Grossarl. Haslauer emphasized again that there are currently no considerations for other locations either.
The head of government defends the quarantine of Kuchl. In Kuchl, the country had to make a decision on very short notice, “because we saw how quickly the numbers increase.” If a quarantine is necessary in other communities, now we have experience with exemptions and such a measure can be announced earlier. “So that people and companies can adapt.”
“It’s not just the boys who celebrate”
How things go with the crown situation depends on how much the measures take effect and how much personal responsibility is assumed, Haslauer said. The governor appealed to citizens to limit their contacts. “If you look at the groups, some of them come from funerals, from groups of friends, from the first communion. It is not only young people who celebrate. It extends to all age groups and social classes.” So now you have to be careful. “It doesn’t matter how many measures we can take. If people don’t adhere to them, it becomes increasingly difficult. We want to avoid a total closure, like in Berchtesgadener Land, if we can.”
