Various infections among students and staff – no school on Thursdays and Fridays – normal start is planned again after fall break.
Fürstenfeld Primary School in eastern Styria closes its doors two days before fall break: the reason being multiple coronavirus infections among students and a faculty, district captain Max Wiesenhofer confirmed Wednesday in an online report from the “Kleine Zeitung”. There are also several contact persons with symptoms. Homeschooling should take place on Thursdays and Fridays, after which everyone must “catch up” during the fall break.
The early closure is a safety measure, Wiesenhofer said, because the infected students are from different classes and come from five different districts, including Jennersdorf in southern Burgenland. The investigation also showed that there was probably not enough distance on school buses and that masks were sometimes not worn. Management and monitoring are difficult for these reasons. Therefore, the early closure was arranged in consultation with the school leadership.
Students and parents were informed about this on Wednesday. Wiesenhofer hopes that after the autumn break everyone will return to school healthy and that the lessons can continue normally. By the way, other schools in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district have not yet been affected by the closures. However, there have also been isolated cases of infections and quarantine, the district captain said.
