Salzburg rescued with serious rope injuries

Drachenwand, Mondsee

Neumayr

The mountaineer fell about 200 meters from the Drachenwand.

A 54-year-old man from Salzburg took a tour of Drachenwand in Mondsee with a 64-year-old friend from the mountain on Tuesday. Below the top, the mountaineers have likely strayed from the marked path due to worn climbing routes. They get out of control in the roadless terrain. The woman slipped and fell between 150 and 200 meters. She was seriously injured, police reported.

The companion notified the emergency services, dismounted until the victim and gave first aid. The C6 emergency medical helicopter, the Mondseeland Mountain Rescue Service and the Gmunden Alpine Police were alerted.

The mountaineers heard cries for help

Four other people who were on the marked road learned of the emergency through calls for help and also rushed towards the victim. A short time later, an ER doctor, a paramedic and a mountain lifeguard were dropped off at the scene with a rope from the helicopter. A helicopter took the woman into the valley and took her to the Salzburg State Hospital.
