meRland is drastically tightening its measures in the fight against the corona pandemic. The highest of the five tiers will take effect next Wednesday, as the Irish government announced on Monday. Generally, citizens of the country are only allowed to stay within a radius of five kilometers from their own place of residence. Exceptions, for example for professional reasons, confirm the rule. Visitors from other households are no longer allowed, pubs and restaurants can only offer food as a delivery service. Schools must remain open.
Ireland is the first EU country to enter a second national blockade. The measures must be applied until December 1.
According to the Irish Health Ministry, 1,031 people were last infected with the corona virus in 24 hours. So far, almost 51,000 infections have been recorded in Ireland. The country has just under five million inhabitants.
