FK Austria Wien have signed central defender Christoph Schösswendter. The 32-year-old fell from grace at FC Admira after criticizing former coach Zvonimir Soldo and was therefore left without a contract.
“We are currently very thin in the central defense position in both professional teams, so now we have decided to bring in a very experienced man with Christoph,” coach Peter Stöger is quoted on the club’s page.
“Christoph is a very interesting man for both of our teams. He can help us achieve our goals. And that from now on, since he has always been training and has a lot of experience. Everything fits very well. I’m happy that we could sign him”, Stöger continued.
Schösswendter could replace Michael Madl in the near future, who suffered a torn collateral ligament in his right knee last week and is likely to be out for up to six weeks.
The veteran is looking forward to the new challenge: “I’m very happy that it worked out now. For me, this is an incredibly big opportunity that you can have at a club as big as Austria. Under the circumstances, it’s for both of us.” Pages a very interesting constellation “.
He wanted to help the young team with his experience: “I know what to expect, I know some of the current players from our Admira times very well. I think that with my experience I help and support the younger players in particular. I look forward to this task “.
With the FAK, Schösswendter receives a contract until the end of the season.
