In the fight against the extremely growing number of corona infections in Berchtesgadener Land in Upper Bavaria, the district authorities have imposed a “lockdown”.

In the afternoon, the Bavarian Prime Minister, Markus Söder, spoke of a package of measures “that corresponds to a blockade.” The Robert Koch Institute reported a seven-day incidence of 252.1 for the district on Monday, which was initially a national record.

Bavarian Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU) worked out the details together with the district and the Upper Bavarian government. Public life in Berchtesgadener Land must be closed.

District Administrator Bernhard Kern, District President Maria Els and Minister of State Michaela Kaniber appeared in front of the press on Monday night.

The following measures have been determined

  • Exit restriction for all Berchtesgadener Land. Starting October 20 at 2 pm for 14 days, that is, until November 2 at midnight.
  • Austrians should not enter the district unnecessarily and the citizens of Berchtesgadener Land should not go to Austria “for shopping”.
  • Reduce physical contact, a distance of 1.5 meters is mandatory.
  • Leaving your own home only in
  • professional activity
  • Use of medical services
  • Shopping in stores and visits to the hairdresser
  • Visit life companions, the elderly and the sick.
  • Accompaniment of people in need of support and minors
  • End-of-life care and funerals in close family circles
  • Do sports and exercise outdoors with someone from the house.
  • Animal care
  • The events are prohibited
  • Services are excluded
  • It is also prohibited to operate facilities that are used for recreational activities: saunas, baths, cinemas, clubs, bars, discos, brothels, libraries, music schools, youth homes, etc.
  • Coach trips and markets are prohibited, with the exception of farmers markets.
  • Restaurants (also outdoors) must be closedDelivery service is allowed until 8 pm
  • Hotels are closed except for business travelers
  • Hospital visitation ban, Rehabilitation facilities, etc. Maternity wards, health centers, etc. are excluded.
  • The accompaniment of the dying by the closest family circle is allowed at all times.
  • Schools and kindergartens are closed, Emergency care is allowed and individuals are not allowed to attend schools outside of the district.
  • Oral and nasal protection should be used from 6 am to 11 pm – in pedestrian areas, in Königssee, in large parking lots in shopping centers.

The reason given was that the contacts of the infected could no longer be traced there. “Therefore, contacts must be fundamentally restricted,” said Markus Söder. The Berchtesgadener Land district is comparatively sparsely populated with a population density of 126 per square kilometer. It is not exactly clear how the wave of infection came about. “The starting point was again a corresponding party,” said the Prime Minister. Other sources of infection may be possible.

The proximity to Austria also calls for drastic measures: if consistent action is not taken now, the high number of corona cases can no longer be reduced.

The governor of Salzburg, Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), showed understanding for the measures. Through his spokesperson, he referred to the close ties with Bavaria. In this context, it is “crucial that the border remains open.”
