Theft reports are now also possible online

Access to the virtual screen, which saves you from having to go to the police station, is through the website oesterreich.gv.at.

The following requirements must be met to be able to submit a report from home through a PC:

  • the crime scene must be in Austria
  • the perpetrator must be unknown
  • the indicator should also be the injured party
  • there must be no other victims
  • A citizen card or mobile phone signature is also required.

Online advertising ends up at the responsible police station

The online report is automatically sent to the responsible police station or, in Vienna, to the responsible police station. If ‘unknown’ is selected as the crime scene on the online form, it will be sent to the office at the stolen person’s primary residence.

Advertising confirmation as a replacement document

In the online form, you can choose if you want to collect the notification confirmation personally or if it should be sent by letter or to the electronic mailbox. If the theft of a driver’s license or registration certificate is reported and the notification confirmation is to serve as a substitute document, surrender is not possible. If the crime scene is in Vienna, a notification confirmation can be collected from the responsible police station while the parties are involved; if you are outside Vienna, it can be obtained from the responsible police station by phone.

Prank ads will be punished and punished

If the police need to intervene immediately, for example in the event of imminent danger, or if evidence needs to be secured, such as in the case of a break-in, no online report can be made. Filling out and submitting the online form for joke and frenzy will be punished and punished, warns the Ministry of the Interior.
