Up to 24 degrees – After a week of rain, the golden fall weather follows

In the extremely cold rainy week, the weather changes. With a hair dryer in the Alps, up to 24 degrees on Wednesday are possible.

After a few cloudy, cold and rainy days, things are again friendlier in Austria. Average temperatures were mostly 3-4 degrees below the long-term average. According to meteorological experts at the Austrian Center for Severe Meteorology, a change is imminent next week. The Alpine region is under the influence of a southwestern foehn current. This means that temperatures rise 20 degrees, especially in the northern Alps.

A minimum called “Fölke” moved from Italy through eastern Austria to the northeast on Friday. The snow fell above 900 to 1200 meters. “In the mountains, temperatures were sometimes up to 8 degrees lower than usual at the time of year,” says Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at the severe meteorological center.

However, the influence of the low pressure diminished on Sunday: on the northern side of the Alps, clouds still predominate and from the Salzkammergut to the Mariazellerland it occasionally rains a little, but during the course of the day there is first loosening. Most hours of sunshine can be expected in the south and in the Tyrolean Oberland, with temperatures reaching 8 to 15 degrees.

From Tuesday it will be foehn and on Wednesday temperatures in the northern Alps will rise considerably. Highs are announced above the 20 degree mark. From Vorarlberg to Salzburg, even late summer peaks of up to 24 degrees are in sight locally. However, it is still significantly cooler with partially harsh high fog in the northeast of the country. Here is the forecast in detail:

Sunday

On Sunday, especially along the northern Alps and from the Inn to Mostviertel, there are still thick clouds, while the fog often lingers in the interior of the Alps. Even during the day the clouds are released here only hesitantly. It is most often sunny from Innsbruck to the west and from Upper Carinthia to southern Burgenland, but also on the eastern plains the sun appears from time to time. Also, there is a moderate to strong west wind blowing from the east and temperatures reach 7 to 15 degrees.

Monday

Monday begins with some residual clouds and in places with fog or high fog. On the other hand, the day is mostly sunny from Salzburg to the east. However, during the day it slackens in most of the country. More compact clouds move from southern Styria to the eastern plains, but the sun rises here, especially in the afternoon. With only weak winds, temperatures are 9-15 degrees on the seasonal average.

Tuesday

On Tuesday morning fog or high mist often lingers in the morning, which is particularly difficult from the Inn to Waldviertel and into places in the south. Apart from this, however, the sunlight dominates, only harmless veils pass by. The wind turns from south to southeast and cools in the Alps. Depending on the sun, the hair dryer and the mist, the temperature rises from 9 to 19 degrees.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, too, the sun often shines away from the fog and high fog, and the veil clouds hardly disturb. The fog fields are proving tough again, especially in the Danube region and also in Waldviertel, but in some places they can also last until noon in the south and southeast. The strong wind from south to southeast drives the temperatures even higher, reaching a maximum of 9 to 24 degrees. It stays cooler in foggy and cloudy regions like Waldviertel.
