Yesterday morning there was an overload of the telephone lines in the town hall of Wels. Many citizens wanted to know how the red crown traffic light in Wels now works and what restrictive measures from Covid threaten. The first information from the crisis team reached the public yesterday at noon. Bottom Line: The effects are less than many fear – the separately changing school traffic light remains yellow, so there will currently be no school closings or homeschooling. The kindergartens will also remain open. As of yesterday, eight high school students from and around Wels and 13 students from Wels compulsory schools were infected with the virus, according to the education department.
“It is important that schools and kindergartens remain open and closure is avoided. We are concentrating on the protection of old and sick catfish,” says Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP). In accordance with this, visits to city homes for the elderly and for the elderly are only allowed by prior arrangement and mainly in defined visitor zones. The generational reunions will be closed as reported. Haus Neustadt, where 25 residents and 13 employees are currently affected, remains closed. Now six residents have to be treated at the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic.
Another Covid station
There, the number of Covid patients is increasing (but the exact numbers are not disclosed by the clinic). “Therefore, we have prepared another Covid station as a precaution according to the step-by-step plan,” says the director of the clinic, Dietbert Timmerer. Otherwise, there are currently no further restrictions for hospital visitors beyond the above extent.
The Wels Chamber of Commerce also faced many inquiries from insecure businessmen yesterday, reports district office manager Thomas Brindl. Except for the national registration requirement for the catering sector, there are no effects for Wels companies. “It would also be incomprehensible, because currently only five percent of infections occur at work,” says Brindl.
Wels host Astrid Pöcherstorfer is not very excited about the registration requirement. “This is a huge and uncontrollable bureaucratic effort, many will give false names,” says the manager of the “Olivi” restaurant, who had the worst deal since closing on Thursday after it was announced that Wels will go red. Many guests stayed away.
The Welser ÖVP yesterday demanded a point of contact in the magistrate for ambiguities and questions from citizens. The town chief, Rabl, can imagine it too. The issue will be discussed in the crisis team on Monday.
