Cup sensation: FAC expels WSG Tirol – 2nd league

WSG Swarovski Tirol has to say goodbye to this year’s ÖFB Cup after the second round. Surprisingly, the Tyrolean Bundesliga club had to admit defeat 0: 1 to the FAC on Friday night. Christian Bubalovic scored the decisive goal in the 41st minute. The 29-year-old hit his head after Sahanek’s corner kick.

No difference in class: FAC takes the lead at half time

The game at Gernot-Langes-Stadion turned out to be very fast at first. The Vienna Second Division did not hide and seemed brave. The home team still had the first chance to score: after a quick turnaround situation, the ball landed on Baden-Frederiksen, who was able to complete the penalty area completely, but his attempt went just over the far corner (6 °). In the 14th minute, the guests were lucky that Jenciragic’s foul on Yeboah did not result in a penalty.

However, the FAC continued to play well and found the first big opportunity in the 24th minute: Zatl refueled Ozegovic and suddenly had the empty goal in front of him, but the angle was too sharp for him to only hit the side net. Ten minutes later, Flavio played Zatl completely blank, whose shot hit the outside post from a good eleven meters (34). Floridsdorfer were good in the game and used momentum to take the lead. Marco Sahanek rounded a corner into the penalty area, where Christian Bubalovic climbed up and headed to make it 0-1 (41st). With this undeserved intermediate result, he entered the half time break.

FAC maintains zero with united forces and advances to second round

After the break, WSG Tirol tried to set the tone on offense. In the 55th minute, a header from Gugganig after Petsos crossed right outside the goal, before the German-Greek took a chance a bit later and took over the leather directly with a volley. But this attempt also failed the gate (57th). Meanwhile, the Bundesliga team was clearly superior, although the offense largely lacked the bright ideas and efficiency.

The FAC, on the other hand, only took care of defensive tasks in the second half and could barely take over. However, the Viennese was kept at zero by a compact defense and also with luck. In the 86th minute, the Bundesliga side had a triple chance, but Jenciragic and his forwards prevented Yeboah from leveling.
