Coronavirus – Corona’s Red Light for the First Time: Four Districts Affected

In 17 other districts, the risk assessment is now high, so the traffic light has changed to orange. In two of them, St. Veit an der Glan in Carinthia and Steyr Stadt in Upper Austria, the commission changed the traffic light from green to orange. In 13 districts, the infection risk assessment is now medium (yellow) instead of low (green). Only three districts were downgraded, all in Lower Austria: Melk and Scheibbs from orange to yellow and Lilienfeld from yellow to green.

Other indicators also suggest that the coronavirus continues to spread in Austria and that the situation is increasingly worrying. For the first time since spring, a community was re-quarantined, namely Kuchl in the now-red light district of Hallein. Tyrolean Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) announced many other restrictions in the late afternoon, most of which will take effect on Friday evening.

In the state, for example, the registration requirement for catering establishments is introduced. In addition, in the “orange” and “red” stoplight districts, the school’s stoplight is changed to “orange” and thus is switched to distance learning from ninth grade onward. Distance learning will also expand in technical colleges and universities, says Platter, who at the same time referred to the autonomy and independence of institutions.

Most measures apply from Friday night.

In particularly sensitive areas such as nursing homes and nursing homes, hospitals, facilities for people with disabilities, and child and youth welfare, only two visitors per day will be allowed in the future. In addition, hygiene standards are increased. Public events can only be held with assigned seating with a maximum of 250 people; drinks are prohibited.

In the future, attendance at funerals will be limited to 100 people. The activities of the club will also not be affected by the new measures: the activities will be limited to the “real purpose of the club”, so the dining room will have to be closed after a football game. Most of the measures will apply from Friday night, the obligation of gastronomic registration and the new school regulations from next Monday. They are initially valid for three weeks.

The state of Salzburg also announced a series of measures to control the sharp increase in the number of new Covid 19 infections in the state. The municipality of Kuchl im Tennengau (Hallein district), where the situation worsened recently, is the most affected. It will be quarantined. But also in the other districts of the country, some important restrictions will apply from next Saturday.

Entry and exit are prohibited in Kuchl, exceptions are only made for the supply of food or heating material, for emergency vehicles and for travelers working in professions of systemic importance. Within the municipality, restaurants and hotels have to close. Business and service businesses remain open to citizens of the community. In addition, exit restrictions apply as with the spring closure, with the well-known exceptions, outdoor exercise, neighborhood help, and shopping.

In addition, the ban on private celebrations outside the living space that came into force in Tennengau will be extended to all of Salzburg. Additionally, a registration requirement for gastronomy is being introduced in the state. The curfew is maintained at 10 pm, except for guests from the hotel industry. Also, no more than 100 people can attend funerals nationwide.

The state is also introducing a ban on events if there are no assigned seats, either indoors or outdoors. Serving food and drinks is prohibited at events. In Tennengau, Flachgau, Pongau and the city of Salzburg, all pupils from the ninth grade onwards will move on to homeschooling. According to Haslauer, this is what the educational traffic light offers, which today will turn orange. The two universities of applied sciences in Kuchl and Puch are also switching to “distance learning”. The measures will be applied from Saturday, October 17 at 12:00 a.m. to November 1 at 12:00 a.m.
