Now that the Corona traffic light has turned “orange” for the first time in schools in the Salzburg regions, the Ministry of Education has sent a complementary decree to the Directorates of Education. Consequently, “orange” does not automatically mean homeschooling for the upper classes. Rather, schools have three options, ranging from distance education to shift work. The decision rests with the location of the school after approval by the Directorate of Education.
The objective of the measures in the regions with the “Orange” traffic light for the education sector is “to achieve a thinning of classes at the upper secondary level due to the increase in the number of infections,” said Education Minister Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP ), in a statement sent to the APA. In boarding schools, it would make sense to send all students from the ninth year onwards to distance education, the minister said.
Groups can be divided
For other places, it is recommended to divide the high school classes into two groups who study daily alternately at school and at home. In homeschooling, students have to do homework and homework and teachers need to maintain regular contact with students. The schedule and distribution of subjects should not be modified. Performance evaluation and evaluation are also carried out as in regular operation. In addition, the Ministry warns that all upper secondary classes are divided into two groups of approximately the same size in preparation for a possible “orange” traffic light.
As a third option, according to the decree, individual students, parts of classes or groups of students can be brought to school on one occasion. This applies, for example, to practical technical lessons, subjects in which exam preparation is required, or to beginner and final level classes.
When the Directorate of Education approves the decision on the location of schools, it must take into account the general situation in the respective educational region and provide an overview of the models chosen by the schools and make it available to the Ministry.
