Waldneukirchen.

In Waldneukirchen (Steyr-Land district) a main gas pipeline was drilled late on Wednesday afternoon during excavation work for a water pipeline. Around 30 buildings had to be evacuated due to the risk of explosion.

During underground drilling work for a water supply line in the center of Waldneukirchen, a main gas line was damaged on Wednesday afternoon. The fire department immediately implemented barrier measures and began the evacuation. 26 buildings, mostly single-family homes, but also several apartment buildings, had to be evacuated.
“We were alerted by a gas leak tonight. When the alarm was reported, it was already said that the gas pipe had been punctured. When we arrived we heard the gas leak from a distance and then, as a first measure, we saw that we were blocking the streets. The company Netz Oberösterreich GmbH arrived and immediately arranged the shutdown of the gas pipeline and also the electricity was cut in the entire local area. 26 buildings and apartments have already been evacuated. The people who have been evacuated have been gathered in the forum. from Waldneukirchen and these people were able to return to their homes after the clearing. There is no longer any danger from the gas, now everyone is back in their homes. I was sure surprised – thank the people for participating so well – there was no discussion in nowhere – it was n everyone saw it was a hazard, “said Siegfried Ettlinger, chief of operations for the Waldneukirchen fire brigade.
The road was excavated at night to expose the damaged gas pipeline. Initially, 208 buildings were without power at night.

Waldneukirchner Strasse and Bad Haller Strasse will probably be closed until Thursday morning.
