Rookie Peter Sagan (Slovakia) won a stage of the Giro d’Italia for the first time in his career. Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step) remains in the overall leader’s pink jersey. Meanwhile, 2 drivers and 6 other people tested positive for the corona virus.

Sagan of the German team Bora-hansgrohe prevailed as a soloist in the 10th section to Tortoreto in the Adriatic Sea and celebrated his first victory in 15 months.
Sagan was 19 seconds ahead of American Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) at the end. Sagan, 30, can now boast stage victories on all three of the big tours (France, Italy and Spain). He had celebrated his latest success 461 days earlier at the 2019 Tour de France in Colmar, thus preventing his first year as a professional without a win.

Thanks to a 4 second bonus, Almeida increased his lead in the overall standings over Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb) to 34 seconds. Third is still the Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-McLaren / + 43 seconds).
8 crown boxes
A total of 8 crown infections around the Giro had previously led to the withdrawal of the Jumbo-Visma and Mitchelton-Scott teams. Therefore, co-favorite Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma) from the Netherlands is no longer there.
Wednesday’s 11th stage leads over 182km from Porto Sant’Elpidio to Rimini. The Tour of Italy ends on October 25 after a total of 21 stages, with an individual time trial at the end.
