Corona’s travel advisories for Vienna hit airlines hard. The number of passengers at Vienna airport dropped by 81 percent to 562,247 travelers in September compared to the same month last year. In August, the disadvantage was 75 percent. Accumulated from January to September 2020, the number of passengers fell about 71 percent to 7.02 million travelers. There was a 61 percent decrease in flight movements in Vienna-Schwechat in September.

Austrian Airlines (AUA) had to reduce the flight plan again after travel advisories for Vienna. Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland, among others, issued a travel advisory for the federal capital in September due to the increase in the number of new corona infections. The drop in cargo volume at Vienna airport was 27 percent.

The Flughafen Wien group that is publicly traded with Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport recorded a drop of 81.5 percent to 702,984 travelers in September. At Malta airport, the number of passengers dropped by 83 percent in September 2020 and at Kosice airport there was an 81 percent drop in passengers.
