Notes: LAOLA1’s individual review of Northern Ireland against Austria

[ad_1]

The ÖFB team has long come forward from a good side in the 1-0 (1-0) victory in Northern Ireland.

Especially in the first half, the Foda-Elf were able to convince, pushed to take the lead and were rewarded with a goal from Michael Gregoritsch.

However, not everything was commendable. The red-and-white kickers have to recognize the potential for exploiting opportunities and the poor performance in the second round, which kept the game exciting until the end.

Some were convincing, some less. This time, only one player got a “very good” rating.

LAOLA1 it analyzes the performance of all the actors of the ÖFB and distributes the ratings (1 = very good, 2 = good, 3 = satisfactory, 4 = sufficient, 5 = insufficient).

These are the qualifications for the ÖFB kickers:

PAVAO PERVAN (Wolfsburg / 3 internationals), 90 minutes, score: 2

Their starting line-up came as no surprise, team boss Foda announced in advance that he would bring the two-man goalkeeper from Wolfsburg from the start. There was almost nothing to stop, but the 32-year-old started ÖFB’s lead thanks to good anticipation by making the game fast, finding Alaba and then Gregoritsch headed Hinteregger’s flank. In the 92nd minute, however, he would have been powerless in Northern Ireland’s only big chance.

STEFAN LAINER (Borussia Mönchengladbach / 22/1), 90 minutes, score: 3

As usual he scratched the right side of the ÖFB in a good and fun way and harmonized well with rookie Ranftl. Gladbach’s legionnaire managed little offense that could be shown, but the Salzburg man allowed nothing on his side. It was probably also the Foda team chief’s specification that Legionnaire Gladbach should seal everything on the defensive.

ALEKSANDAR DRAGOVIC (Bayer Leverkusen / 83/1), 90 minutes, notes: 2

The veteran, also at the request of his neighbor Martin Hinteregger, took precedence over Stefan Posch for the first time in the current Nations League season and restored his confidence with a stable defensive performance. The defense was rarely challenged properly. However, everything was cleared up for sure before it could be dangerous.

MARTIN HINTEREGGER (Eintracht Frankfurt / 49/4), 90 minutes, attendance, score: 1

A great performance from the Carinthian that was almost better offensive than defensive. Together with Ilsanker, Baumgartlinger and Dragovic, he secured a tight headquarters. In the 24th minute, the Eintracht legionnaire missed with a nosedive header, and Gregoritsch set up the first goal with a good cross after having advanced far. With high balls he also always demonstrated his aerial superiority. A sovereign performance without being really challenged on the defensive.

DAVID ALABA (Bayern Munich / 73/14), 90 minutes, score: 2

The Bayern star was only a left-back on paper and found himself mostly deep in the opponent’s half. Time and again he initiated the Austrian attacks and often moved away from headquarters, where he added accents with his creativity. His free kicks and crosses always created danger, together with Christoph Baumgartner he formed a nice left side of the ÖFB. When Liam Boyce gave him a last-minute chance, the 28-year-old fell completely asleep, which could have been expensive.

STEFAN ILSANKER (Eintracht Frankfurt / 45/0), 90 minutes, score: 3

The Salzburg man occupied the defensive end in central midfield and won almost all of his duels. The 31-year-old also appeared on offense, in the 10th minute he missed after a Baumgartner corner with his head. Defensively, he plugged all the holes and was jointly responsible for the ÖFB team’s strong defensive performance. However, it was not more than average.

JULIAN BAUMGARTLINGER (Bayer Leverkusen / 78/1), 90 minutes, score: 3

Sometimes I would have liked a little more creativity in central midfield, Alaba took over this part of the left, Baumgartlinger held back in building the game. Defensively, there is nothing to criticize, together with Ilsanker he formed the compact headquarters that the Foda team leader had wanted. However, the captain is more used to pulling strings at headquarters, which this time fell by the wayside.

REINHOLD RANFTL (LASK / 2/0), replaced in 73rd minute, grade: 3

The LASK pro was a surprise when he made his debut in the starting eleven on his second mission. Kilometers carefree on the right wing, once he was too surprised in front of the goal that he reached the ball. But he showed that he quickly finds his way around this level due to international appearances with the Linzers. Decent performance, even if the automations have yet to mature. He replaced Christopher Trimmel in the 73rd minute.

XAVER SCHLAGER (VfL Wolfsburg / 14/1), 90 minutes, yellow, score: 3

Low-key game from the Wolfsburg Legionnaire! He plugged the gaps in the defensive movement and fought many balls with his will to run and fight hard. However, he was not as energetic on offense as he has already shown on the national team. Sometimes he acted unhappy or lacked precision in reproduction. This was forgiven against Northern Ireland, but Schlager can certainly do more.

CHRISTOPH BAUMGARTNER (TSG Hoffenheim / 4/1), 90 minutes, rating: 2

The Hoffenheim Legionnaire’s style of play was fun again this time. The horn was put into operation from the first minute. When things got dangerous, he was there. But he missed two mega chances. After a weak volley, he gets alone in front of the goalkeeper (23), a little later he shoots him from five meters. This time it wasn’t easy, but he still has a huge influence on ÖFB’s game, and Foda has come to know and love his qualities. Even if he acted without luck in front of the goal, it is a victory for the red-white-red team.

MICHAEL GREGORITSCH (FC Augsburg / 20/4), substituted in the 80th minute, goal, score: 2

The Augsburg forward has once again shown that he can do it in the national team. He was present from the beginning, balls insured. A quick move in the 15th minute missed the mark. In the meantime, he dived a bit, but released Foda-Elf with his head butt just before the break. His fourth goal for the team, his second goal in the last three Nations League games plus an assist against Greece – it’s all over for Gregerl. He replaced Adrian Grbic in the 80th minute.
